I think your reference to Republika Srpska as "ridiculous" defeats the
purpose of your supposedly objective remarks. What is "ridiculous" is the new
Croatia. I'm afraid that it won't last, since the land that Croatia has
enveloped never belonged to it, except under the Nazis in WWII.
The Croatians are a minority compared to the Serbs. This temporary map will
not last. The coastline is also "ridiculous". It was given to the Croats by
their leader, Tito. Eventually the international community will realize that
borders drawn by an undemocratic government will not be able to stand.
Croatia will then go back to its original, very small, dimensions.
While your pride in your people is understandable, you should also be able to
look more objectively at what the past and present regimes have done. It is
"ridiculous", cruel, and inhuman.
I replied the same day:
Hello:
Well, I think that your remark hit the spot. You are right, my
reference is not a fully objective one. However, in the spur of
the moment I looked at it and thought to myself that it did look
rather ridiculous. I apologize if I had offended you.
I would like to include your note there together with my remark.
If I could get your permission, I would like to quote you by name,
otherwise I'll just post it anonimously. What do you say?

All those borders have been changing throughout the past, as you
know. So, it is not really fair to stop at some point and say that
that should be the reference point for the present. I believe that
justice can not be based on the memory of the dead but rather only
on the memories of the living since only they can feel the consequencies,
good or bad, of actions stemming out of such seeking.

Please feel free to use my remarks, as long as it is done without any
derogatory statements.
However, let me say that you've been very fair in your answer to me. I
appreciate your viewpoint, and the way in which you have presented your
views. It is a breath of fresh air in this present situation in the Balkans.
All sides need to talk more to each other to come to fair conclusions about
the situation and the future.
Sincerely,
AR
So here you have it, the whole story.
